    I. Three-Tier Structure: Clear Division of Labor Among Tiers

    Disposable medical masks are typically made of three layers of nonwoven fabric, with each layer serving a different function:

    Outer (splash-resistant) layer: Made of spunbond nonwoven fabric, it offers excellent moisture resistance and effectively prevents the splashing and penetration of bodily fluids, blood, and other liquids.

    Middle layer (filtration layer): Made of meltblown nonwoven fabric, with finer fiber diameter and smaller pore size, it serves as the primary barrier layer for particulate matter.

    Inner layer (moisture-absorbing layer): Made of hydrophilically treated spunbond nonwoven fabric, which provides excellent comfort upon contact with the skin and effectively absorbs exhaled moisture.

     

    II. Filtration Mechanism: Physical Interception and Electrostatic Adsorption

    The filtration efficiency of the meltblown fabric in the middle layer of a mask stems from two mechanisms:

    Mechanical interception: Particulate matter in the air is trapped as it passes through a fibrous mesh because its size exceeds the pore dimensions.

    Electrostatic adsorption: During manufacturing, meltblown fabric undergoes an electret treatment that imparts a static charge, enabling it to adsorb sub-micron particles and thereby enhancing filtration efficiency.

     

    III. Nose Clip and Ear Loops: Design Enhancing Fit

    The fit of a mask directly affects its protective efficacy, and the auxiliary structure plays a crucial role:

    Nose clip: a shaping strip embedded in the top edge of the mask, typically made of aluminum-plastic composite or all-plastic material. When pressed, it conforms to the contour of the nasal bridge, reducing side leakage.

    Ear loops: Elastic bands woven from spandex or polyester that secure the mask to the face; their length and elasticity should be moderate to prevent excessive tightness or easy slippage.

     

    IV. Sterile vs. Non-Sterile: Distinguishing Usage Scenarios

    Disposable medical masks are divided into two categories depending on whether they have been sterilized:

    Sterile type: Sterilized by ethylene oxide or irradiation, individually packaged, and suitable for medical settings requiring a sterile environment, such as operating rooms and puncture procedures.

    Non-sterile type: Not subjected to sterilization; microbial indicators are controlled within specified limits; intended for non-sterile procedures such as routine outpatient care and daily protective measures.

    The protective performance of a Disposable medical mask is based on material selection and structural design. When wearing it, ensure that the nose clip is properly shaped and the mask fits tightly against the face so that the filter layer can exert its intended barrier effect.
